The Royal Hotel

Contact Venue

The historic Royal Hotel offers Regency charm and riverside views, making it the perfect setting for a weekend break. Situated just seconds from the Tarka Trail and with Instow beach, Westward Ho!, The Big Sheep and the coast path just a stone’s throw away, there are plenty of things to see and do.

Our bedrooms haven’t compromised on style or comfort. Wondrously welcoming beds will provide you with a fantastic night’s sleep and with views over the River Torridge, it will be hard to pull yourself away from the view on your short break!

With an atmosphere and character that is unique, parts of The Royal Hotel date back to the 17th century. Not only is it rich in history, but many of the original features have been carefully preserved; the sensational Kingsley Room still has its original pine panelling and magnificent ornate ceiling, something which can also be enjoyed from the Kingsley Suite.

Elsewhere in our Bideford hotel, you can relax in the Regency Suite Bar, sinking into an armchair whilst tucking into a light snack. Alternatively, let the aroma of our delicious carvery tempt you to a roast with all the trimmings. Add to this our legendary service and mouth-watering cuisine and you have all the ingredients for a break that is truly memorable.

On your break in North Devon, you can make the most of our leisure facilities at nearby The Barnstaple Hotel, as well as free Wi-Fi and free parking. Not only does our location make exploring North Devon simple, but with Cornwall just a short drive away, we’re ideally located for exploring as much of the West Country as possible!

“I have never before, in my long eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse. With two and a half weeks of extensive coverage of landscapes and skies, I hardly scratched the surface of the visual opportunities that were gifted to me.”
